Choizhi-Odser

Choizhi-Odser, whose name is sometimes translated as "Light of the Dharma", was one of Mongolia's greatest 14th century writers and scholars. He composed the first Mongolian grammar in 1305, and also translated many books from Indian and Tibetan into Mongolian, as well as writing skilful poems to introduce and conclude his own works. Choizhi-Odser is mentioned in several histories written in Mongolian, Tibetan and Chinese languages.

Choizhi-Odser is known for having translated many scriptures and dharanis into Mongolian and writing poems of praise, benediction, prayer and ritual offering; he also wrote the Arvan xoyor zoxiongui or "Twelve Creations" (a biography of the Buddha), and detailed commentaries on the ten-chapter philosophical scripture Bodichariya Avatara or "Entering into Nirvana" by the ancient Indian philosopher Shantideva, of which he had ten thousand copies printed.

In commemoration of the legacy and teachings of
His Holiness Dulduit Danzanravzhaa
Fifth Wrathful Noble Xutagt of the Great Gobi (1803-1856)

I did not overbearingly sophize
Nor preach with pride and arrogance
But having found a sense in this world
Spoke the truth of my dear heart.
