Leader of the XALX Mongols. In association with ALTAN XAN of the Tu'med, Abtai (Abatai) Sain Xan of the Xalx undertook the dissemination of Buddhism in Mongolia and had constructed ERDENE ZUU MONASTERY, where the foundations of his immense palace-yurt remain visible to this day.

Abtai Sain Xan subjugated the OIRAD Mongols through the battle of Xo'vxo'r Xeree in approximately 1577, granting the administration of Oirad Mongolia to his own son Suvdaa; but this dominion was lost upon Abtai Xan's death in 1586.
