Culture and Development Research Network (CDRN)
The Culture and Development Research Network (CDRN) is a virtual network for collaborative research and information-sharing among scholars, government workers and development practitioners, and resource users in Mongolia and elsewhere in Inner Asia.
The CDRN is registered as a non-governmental organization in Mongolia. Membership is open to individuals or organizations with a demonstrated interest in the working themes of the organization.
The field of culture and development is taken to encompass the shared, everyday practices and knowledge situated at the interface between humans and the environment, as examined from the perspective of their significance to sustainable human development goals. Research in this area draws attention to the importance of cultural resources in fostering wellbeing and adaptability.
Activities
Specific activities of the CDRN include:
- Maintenance of a Mongolian Digital Ethnography Archive, including documents providing tangible evidence of contemporary resource use practices;
- Monitoring and reporting on current environmental and development policy, projects, and programs affecting small-scale resource users in Mongolia or elsewhere in Inner Asia;
- Operating a forum on culture and development, with measures to provide access to resource users and other network members who may be excluded from conventional debates.
