Do'rvo'd Mongols
The Do'rvo'd live in Bo'xmo'ro'n, Davst, Sagil, O'lgii, O'mno'gov' and Xovd sums of Uvs aimag, Do'rgo'n sum of Xovd aimag, Naranbulag, Zavxan and Tarialal sums of Uvs aimag and Nogoonnuur sum of Bayan-O'lgii aimag, alongside Bayad, Sartuul, Xoton and Kazax populations. There were 66 706 Do'rvo'ds living in Mongolia in 2000. The Do'rvo'd are an ancient tribe who contributed to making up the original Mongol nation. They are descended from the four sons of Duva Soxor and their subjects. They lived near the Tatar and Salzhiut near the Xalx River during the 12th century, and were included in the Great Mongol State in 1206, under the rule of the Central and Western Tu'men. Later they moved to the Altai Mountains, and settled near the source and middle section of the Erchis River. The Do'rvo'ds were governed for a time by Bornagal, a son of Esen Xaan (1407-1454). Since that time the Do'rvo'ds made up one of the Oirad aimags. Some Do'rvo'ds moved to Xo'x Nuur and Tibet with the Xoshuut at the end of the 1620s. The remainder migrated alongside the Oirads, when they went to the Volga River. The Do'rvo'ds who remained in their homeland actively participated in establishing the Zu'u'ngar Empire. In the middle of the 18th century, when the Zu'u'ngar Empire was conquered by the Manchu, some Do'rvo'ds moved east and settled near Uvs Lake, Xarxiraa Mountain and Xar-Us Lake. About 2000 Do'rvo'ds were divided into three xoshuus by their Manchu rulers, and were included in Sain Zayatyn Chuulgan. As with the Bayad, the Do'rvo'd had many famous bards and tellers of tales, such as Buural Sesren, Baglaa, Xainzan and Zodov.
