Help on Citations
Adding citations
Citations should be given in AuthorDate (CamelCase) format, as shown in the table below.
Authors |
Citation |
Print rendering |
Single author |
Smith 1987 |
|
Two authors |
Gunderson and Holling 2002 |
|
Three or more authors |

|
Same author(s)+year |
Smith 2011a, 2011b |
|
Mongolian author |

These will be converted to conventional author-date citations and Chicago-style bibliography if the AuthorDate Greasemonkey script is enabled (see HelpOnGreasemonkeyScripts). Further formatting options are available if LaTeX export is selected.
Uploading reference details
Citations entered as indicated above will be automatically hyperlinked to reference pages with names corresponding to the citations. Clicking on any of these links will give you the option of creating a new reference page.
Reference details should be entered in BibTeX format. You can copy the BibTeX reference details directly from your citation manager or from a database such as Google Scholar. Alternatively, you can enter the citation details by hand, using one of the page templates that are available. There are two ways you can do this:
Go to NewReference, which gives a form that will let you select a template for any of the main types of references. Enter a citation key and click "GO", then fill in the template in the editor. Now you can cite these references in a wiki document.
[RECOMMENDED] Type citations in a wiki document. Then use the CheckCitations action on that page (available in the "More Actions" menu). This will open a citation manager that will list all the citations in alphabetical order, showing which references are missing and allowing you to create a new reference from one of the available templates.
Important notes:
- Please ensure that the BibTeX citation key matches the key used as the pagename!
For the reference to be parsed correctly, you must ensure that the instruction #format text/bibtex is included on its own line at the top of the reference page.
If you are having trouble creating BibTeX references, or have a large number of references to add, please submit a formatted bibliography to a site administrator who can convert your biblography using automated tools.
The "Bibliography" action
To view the references cited on a given page, select "Bibliography" from the "More Actions" menu. If called with the parameter &format=raw the bibliography will consist of unformatted text (BibTeX references). If called with &format=citations it will give an alphabetical list of citations (useful for checking missing references).
