Administrative / Biographical history
The Mongolian Digital Ethnography Archive was established in 2011 as a repository for ethnographic field recordings and other materials produced in Mongolia. The archive collects primary ethnographic documents—field recordings, interview transcripts, and fieldnotes—representing contemporary Mongolians' diverse, everyday experiences. With the goal of expanding Mongolian social and cultural anthropology beyond salvage ethnography and folklore studies, the repository is intended to serve as a resource for Mongolian and foreign scholars, development workers, and others seeking to engage in grounded discussion of contemporary practices.
