Style Guide

The following stylistic conventions are observed in this wiki.

  • Email address must be all lowercase: firstnamelastname@example.com

  • Usernames must be CamelCase for both name and domain: EricThrift@DornogobiMuseum

  • Full www address should be in angle brackets and include the protocol: <http://www.example.com/>

  • Wikinames should always be in CamelCase. Avoid using bracketed links.

  • Uppercase links (e.g., AARUUL) are intended to link to glossary pages, which provide basic information about the capitalized term and provide a means for organizing information semantically by keywords. Please note that this type of link syntax is added on to the core MoinMoin functionality; you do NOT need to use square brackets (e.g., [[LINK TEXT]]) in order to create this type of hyperlink. These terms are ethnographic or theoretical terms related to Mongolian nomadic pastoralism and adaptive capacity; other terminology should be linked elsewhere, such as Wikipedia or another source.

  • Citations of published works are in CamelCase using the format AuthorYear. See also HelpOnCitations for detailed information on citation formats and on how to upload reference data. If the cited resource is freely licensed or available in the public domain it may be included as an attachment to the reference page.

Mongolian-language terms

Block quotes and authors' names in citations should be given in Cyrillic. They will automatically be transliterated by the Greasemonkey script as required.

In-text terms can be transliterated using MNS 5217:2003.

Bilingual pages

Bilingual pages are generally only necessary in the case of catalogue or bibliographic entries, which refer to a single resource. Help pages and other content should be localized where possible.

Bilingual pages should be labelled with the following processing instruction at the top of the page:

  • #format wiki bilingual

Place <<en>> and <<mn>> markers at the beginning of English and Mongolian-language content sections. For example:

#format wiki bilingual

<<en>>
= Title =
The content goes here.

<<mn>>
= Нэр =
Агуулгыг энд байрлуулна.
