The most important accessories for the Mongolian man were the knife and steel-and-flint set. The cord for the knife and flint, which is made of silver, iron or brass, is called the bel, the upper part of which was made with butterfly or horn patterns and inlaid with coral. The steel-and-flint set was ornamented with leather pads and a small loop decorated with patterned iron, silver or pearl. The handle of the knife was often ornamented with bone, birch bark or ebony. The sheath, handle and groove of the knife could be decorated with embossed steel or silver patterns, occasionally with inlaid pearls.
